As of 1 January 2019, all Thatcham Research security product assessments will be conducted under a new ‘Thatcham Security Certifications’ brand, an overarching service.

The Thatcham categories for Alarm and Immobilisers were launched in the 1990s and have become an industry benchmark. The certification provides reassurance around the functionality, design and performance of alarms, immobilisers and tracking systems. From 1 January 2019, all security assessments will be conducted under a new Thatcham Security Certification banner.

Product assessment changes

  • Thatcham will no longer undertake annual manufacturing site assessments – assessments will be carried out on the products only, and not the associated manufacturing processes
  • Certification renewals will be carried out every 2 years, instead of annually
  • Products will only be assessed upon receipt of the relevant recognised Type Approval certificates
  • Certification process time reduced from a 6-8 week process, to 1-2 weeks
  • A new schedule of fees
  • A new Thatcham Security Certified logo
