Occupant status monitoring (OSM) technology can detect the alertness, attention and availability of the driver and other passengers inside the vehicle. OSM includes systems such as driver monitoring, child presence detection, and seatbelt reminders.
OSM is the key enabling technology for automation and driver controlled assistance systems (DCAS), otherwise known as “hands off, eyes on” assistance systems, but also has the potential to influence many of Thatcham Research’s other ACE+ topics and agendas.
As well as being a core part of our safety agenda, OSM will also play a future role in vehicle security technology, bringing the potential for biometric and two-factor authentication.
