The Thatcham Recognised Auto Locksmiths scheme introduces a degree of regulation and certification into the unregulated market of automotive Locksmiths.

Representatives of the Auto Locksmith Association (ALA), Master Locksmith Association (MLA) and Thatcham, working in partnership, have established an insurance industry standard that recognises the competency and skills of the modern Automotive Locksmith.

The purpose of this service is to provide the following:-
  • Database of Thatcham Recognised Auto Locksmiths
  • Assist the UK insurance industry
  • Safeguard and maintain a low risk for replacement car keys
  • Provide the Motor body-shop repair Industry and the motoring public with a quick and easy guide to competent Auto Locksmiths in their locality
To qualify for Thatcham Recognition, the following is required:-
  • A legitimate company or sole trader
  • A member of the ALA or MLA
  • Comply with the requirements of the Thatcham TRAL criteria
