Background InformationThe New Vehicle Security Ratings scheme, covering cars, vans and trucks is an extension of the New Car Security Ratings (NCSR) scheme launched in 2001. The security ratings are derived from the New Vehicle Security Assessments undertaken by Thatcham for insurance group rating purposes. Although launched by Thatcham, the Association of British Insurers and Lloyd’s, the NCSR scheme was developed jointly with the Automobile Association, the former Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions and is supported by the Government's Vehicle Crime Reduction Action Team (VCRAT) New Car Security Task Group chaired by the Department for Transport. |
